I am helping my friend refinish his 1971 and I believe it is the 270hp engine. I need to know what the underhood is supposed to be equipped with. Example stamped chrome v/covers or cast finned aluminum? It is a Q-jet with cast iron manifold. I want it to look right. I am more familiar with 63-67's. I am sure it needs all of the chrome shielding, but if I could get an original picture to follow it would help or maybe someone has a survivor and can give me some tips I would appreciate it.

Glenn,
For a start the valve covers were plain painted steel. There have been lots of engine compartment pictures posted that you can search for. Plus, someone will probably post some for you.
Regards,
Alan
PS: The Vet Vues 68-72 Fact Book by Dobbins has GREAT pictures, but not in color.
Cast iron intake manifold and stamped steel valve covers...both painted Chevy orange (same as block). The air cleaner is the double snorkle type with black painted lower unit and chromed lid.
