Default Removing center console (Vent Cables)

Ok, I got around to removing the carpet, seats etc....from my 71 Auto coupe. No issues until I got to removing the center console. I disconnected & labeled all the wiring & vacuum lines.

Is there a trick e or easy way to disconnected the 2 vent control cables?
These are the 2 cables that are controlled by the 2 levers near the heater control assembly.

I disconnected the cables from the two vent doors first, then took the whole heater control and levers out with the cables still attached. It was easier then to get at the bottom of the levers.

Alan

PS: David Mayhew has recently worked in this area, I think. Maybe he'll post a suggestion, too.

Good idea! I will try it that way, sounds easier too.

I'm in the middle of redoing my '70's interior and the above described method is what I did too.

Hello Alan , hope you are well Sir.

Alan is correct , I just finished a complete dash restoration.

No money left to buy shoes for the kids at this time.

My car is a 4 speed , but I do not think that makes much difference.

I have been able to disconect the vent cables at the heater control bracket without too much problem.

Just remove the screws holding the heater control assy. to the bracket with the levers.

Then rotate / twist the control from the bracket.

You then can lift the bracket with the levers a few inches and access the pins that the wire loops around.

Also helps to move the levers to the rear.

Once you get this far I beleive you will see what I am saying

There is also a flat retainer disc that will need to be pryed off with a small flat blade screw driver.

Hope this helps.

Also just a FYI , if you are not aware. Thers is an adjuster in the middle of the cabels that if you twist , you can fine tune the complete opening / closing of the vent doors

Thanks David good tips. I'll be taking your suggestions to actual hands on use on Monday when I go back to work. (Car is at my workplace)

Thanks again.
