i recently went to install the t tops on my car /crashed destorted /repaired[i fitted after windshield frame was straightend ] after installing the chrome top piece and all interior pieces the tops don;t fit what should i do ,loosen up everything and start from scratch or just the parts that don;t seem to fit , seems like i have to reshim the center slots then move the outer catches, thanks for the help, artie
Artie,
Look at UPC1, sheet F15 in the AIM for your car. There are really 6 parts that control the top panel. The 2 center locks that slide into the center bar of the birdcage, the 2 locks at the side glass, the front guide pin at the corner of the windshield and the wedge in the rear on the lock pillar. All these parts can be adjusted and come into play in positioning the top panel. The AIM also gives some guidance as to what the gaps should be. Do you think the fact that the car was crashed may have a bearing on your top panel fit?

Alan
thanks alan i loosend up all the ajustment points and the tops fit almost perfect, it fit better before i installed the top trim and windshield trim , i have been playing with the shims under the center ajustments and its getting better ,i guess i just have to do battle a little more , after i got them really close one of my friends says they nrver fit exact from the factory , maybe i;m just trying too hard, i also bought 3 sets and some tops fit better than others so i guess they warp also
Artie,
I'm the original owner of my 71 Coupe. The top panels fit good but not great. There are so many things that can control the fit and the gaps.
You have to have loads of patience and keep adjusting. You can do it!!!

Alan
