Default 76 map pocket

How do you install it? Can it be done without removing the dash?

You need to remove the right side dash panel where the map pocket is. After that is out, I believe everything will be self explanatory. If I remember correctly, there are a couple pf springs and screws and only a couple of screws to get the dash panel out.

That section goes in/comes out w/o removing any other pieces of the dash. It's pretty straight forward. Don't forget the 2 screws on the right side securing the portion that wraps around and meets the front of the door panel.

I bet you could change the map pocket without removing that panel, but I wouldn't even try.

I'd rather spend 5 minutes pulling the panel out than spend half an hour laying on the floor board.

Brookman,

There are detailed instructions on our web site which tell you how to remove all dash pads from the car. The fist one that comes out is the passenger side so just read it and stop there.

You can download this sheet in pdf format. Just go to the site and enter your year, then in the second box select “Repair and Install Help”. In the search box type dash pad and it will pull it for you. Http://www.willcoxcorvette.com

Or you can just click on this link and it will take you there.

If you already knew how the pocket is assembled, you might be able to do it with the dash pad in place. But, it is so much easier to do with the panel out....and all you have to do is remove the aluminum rocker channel plate (on the floor entry), remove the right kick panel, then take the screws out of the door jamb area, the right side of the gauge cluster and the 3 at the top of the dash pad.

Does anyone have a picture or a description of how it is connected?

I bought the springs.

Going from a sextagenarian's memory (car's under cover in the garage), the side edges of the pocket fit through the slots in the dash pad. There should be some loops or holes at each corner of the pocket (on the back side of the dash pad) to which one end of the 4 springs is inserted. The other end of each spring [loop] is held under the little pan-head screws that are mounted into the posts on the back of the dash pad. As I recall, that's all there is to it.

I have the panel out. It looks like the bottom of the map pocket is supposed to be screwed to the panel?

I see four raised holes in the panel - and 4 matching holes on the new map pocket.

?? help!

Yes, 4 screws go through the front lower lip into the dash pad. then fold it up and insert the side flaps through the slots in the dash. 1 spring will atach to each side flap at the top and attach to a screw comming into the dash from the side that faces the front of the car.
