Default Expert C3 help!

Ok guys I need expert C3 assistance. I'm looking at purchasing a 1971 Convertible 4speed LT1. How do I tell if the car was originally an LT1. Apparently the VIN will not provide such info. Also, if the car was built with RPO LT1 how do I tell if it still has a numbers matching engine and trans. Thanks in advance for any help provided. I look forward to the education.

I Have A 71 Lt1 With The Tank Sticker. I Saw On The Net Yesterday Some Body Said The Last 4 Or 6 Numbers On The Vin Should Match The Last Numbers On The Engine And Trany. They Sounded Like They Knew What They Were Talking About But I An Not Sure.

Get yourself a Corvette Black Book. Mine says the engine suffix code for LT1 330 hp is CGZ. As bop says the engine serial# and the tranny # should match the last digits if they are original. In 71 there was a ZR1
package that had the M22 tranny, transistor ignition, special radiator, brakes and suspension parts-rare though. Good luck.

Tommy,
Think about having someone who really knows LT-1s go with you to look at the car. You'll be paying extra for an LT-1 so you need to be as sure as you can be that it's a REAL car.
D Mayhew posted a great list of what items make up an LT-1. Perhaps you can search for it or MAYBE he'll post it again. (Hi David).
LT-1s are great cars!!!!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan, after I posted this I found the thread with the very informative info. This car is in North Carolina and after receiving several good pics this afternoon I have determined it is the 270HP 350 and not the LT1. Apparently someone put the LT1 hood on the car to make it look like the real deal.

All that said, now I'm trying to determine what the non LT1 car is worth. It is probably a 5 and is a convertible. Anyone have any ideas on the value of such an animal???

Hey Alan , hope you are well.

Tommy as Alan mentioned I had posted some info that may help you on your next LT-1 opprounity. Sorry about the car in NC.

In any case to see the info I had posted go to the general section and look at the 1st page. I went back and found the old posting and bumped it back to the front of the line.

Good luck on your search. The LT-1 is a blast to own.

David

The LT1 had a Holley carb, the base engine a Quadrajet, also the LT1 had a 6500 rpm red line, the base 6000 or 5800
