Default Stamp question

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I appreciate it very much. I'll ask the seller to clean the pad tomorrow...hopefully, he will. Sometimes I long for the old days (late 60's and early 70's), when my friends and I raced our cars, blew a few engines, changed them out, and didn't worry about the numbers at all. Who would have thought then what the future portended.....

That pad looks too perfect. Even the paint (that shouldn't be on it) looks pristine. Use extreme caution, and hire somebody that knows what they're doing to look at it.

Join NCRS, and they now have a technical discussion forum where you can ask about anything and everything.

I am not a pad expert, but it seems the paint on the pad doesn't match the surrounding engine paint. It looks fresher and a slightly different color. I agree with the others, the pad must be cleaned and you should invest some money to have it professionaly evaluated before dropping a good sum of money. Good luck, and I hope it's real and you get your car.

Jake,
I reread some of your posts. In one of them you mention the tank sticker. Since the VIN is not on the sticker, the sticker is NOT linked to any 1 car, just to some car built around that date. That's why Documentation is made up of many pieces; the more the better. In a perfect world you'll have a Bill of Sale, Window Sticker, POP Information, Tank Sticker and Shipper's Copy. The more valuable the car, the MORE you should have.
Regards,
Alan

it would be helpful to look at other items on the car, Block casting date should be in range with the assembly date. Block numbers are unique for periods of production. If you suspect something dig deeper.

I agree the pad looks too good and with the paint no braoch marks.

I'm not concerned with the look of the digits. However, it looks like there are lines, left to right in various spots, particularly under the suffix code. I'd want to know if they're just in the paint or if the lines are in the pad. Also, the seller can't reasonably expect to sell such a high dollar car and not clean the pad off so the broach marks and surface of the pad can be examined.
