My lights work but they go up and down too slow !
I'm assuming there is a leak somewhere in some hoses....
Today I took 12" of hose and disconnected one end at the actuator nipple. With my own breath, I was able to pop'em in and out.(lights)
While doing so, I had my hand near the nipples of one of the relays. I could feel a bit of air when blowing.... Leak
My question is: Isn't there supposed to be clips over the hoses to hold a tight fit over the nipples ?
I thinks my hoses are dried up and craking and don't have a tight fit at the nipples...
If I'm to replace all hoses one by one, where do I get them and what do I use ???
I recently replaced my hoses with a kit from Zip. But there is a lot more to the system than hoses. If yours are old and brittle, I'd replace them, but don't be surprised to find other gremlins. None of it is too hard though, it's all do-it-yourself stuff. It took me a few trys, but mine pop right up and down now, even with the engine off! (I also have a spare vacuum canister and headlight actuator now if you end up needing them) God bless, Sensei
Phil,
It's a good idea to get a trouble shooting guide from one of the venders. Dr. Rebuild has a good one that shows you how to test the function of each component.
The hoses didn't have any clamps originally. Some times just cutting a 1/2" off each end of a hose helps them seal better.
I think that having a guide is really important.
Regards,
Alan
Lots of hoses are sold but it never fixes the problem. The actuators-relays are the number one leakers and the canisters are second. The hoses are a distant last.
I concur with LYLE. From what you said it is probably your relays. I would also check your vacuum filter and check valve (both are near the back of the engine).
I just finished putting in a Doc Rebuild hose kit in my '71. Quality stuff with a great color system diagram. Spend the extra $3 for the trouble shooting guide. DON'T buy a zip kit! Hoses are too fat to fit well and once you get the Doc rebuild kit you will understand what I mean. My condolences to a1sensei for doing so. Also, for some good info on leaky relay valves, search this forum for "vacuum" and read the thread that I started regarding relay valves. There's some good info from other members about how to repair your leakers and save $60 each. Get the kit and the trouble shooting guide and go for it!
