From what I've seen, the factory drop-base air cleaner from 68-72 has the most drop of any air cleaners on the market (like 2"). If OEM won't fit, you need to change something else (hood, intake etc.)
Just my 2 cents.

Hey Pete I Called Moroso Today They Said The Filter Seats 2 1/2 Inches Above The Carburator Top Or Lip. Seams Like A Lot To Me. Seams Like It Shood Sit 2 1/2 Below The Top Or Lip That Would Work For Me.
Car71,
I took my aie filter off today, placed the base on a table and measured the height from the base to the carb. mounting surface. It is 2 inches exactly. That is the base drops 2" below the level of the carb air filter flange. The air filter element is 2 7/8" high, AC# A212CS. These are stock or OEM parts. I don't know about after market parts in this regard.
hi this is what i have edelbrock rpm manafold& carburetor with stock hood on a sb 71 vett. tryed a edelbrock drop base air cleaner didnt work. also a mr gasket low rider with two inch filter no luck with that. is there someone running this set up where the the hood will close. thanks
How much is it missing fit by? Could it be the bolt on top of the breather that is causing it not to fit? I had to shorten the bolt a little to make it fit on mine. Is a pain to screw in but it works.....barely.
