I could be wrong but a drop base is really the only thing that gets you the clearance and seems you already tried that.

I used a Performer manifold with a drop base air cleaner and a 2" element and that has about 3/4" hood clearance.

Do a search for a Clink69 post about the RPM air gap fitting under a SB hood.

You need the LT-1/L88/BB air cleaner assembly.

I managed to squeeze the Edelbrock rpm airgap vortec manifold under my stock 68 sb bonnet.... with a drop base and 1.5" filter.
It worked ... just, but top end power was restricted for my 383....
so now I have an L88 bulge.

I used K&N's 7/8" drop base with a 2" K&N filter with the RPM AirGap and it fit with a .5" clearance in my 69 with the small block hood. I don't have a choke... I think thats a must if you want to have that large of a drop base...

I guess the question is which drop base sits the lowest.

Summit Racing: (both for 14" diameter filters)

KNN-85-3549 Dropped 1.25"

KNN-85-3545 Dropped 7/8"

I will also say I tried both of those bases... the 1.25" base fit better under my hood.. however when I tightened down the air cleaner top it was so low that it interfered with the throttle lever on the carb (BG 750 Double Pumper)... The 7/8" base did not which is why I had to go with it... It may be different with other carbs....

I had the same problem with this setup and went with the drop base and 2 inch filter. This also worked for mine but had to reshape the base a little at the choke to clear the automatic choke housing.

Nope. It's just the Performer, not the Performer RPM.
