I am running 225 70 15's on my 68 427/390 coupe. I bought redlines from Diamondback. The tires are Yokahamas and provide excellent ride and cornering. They look great. Service was also excellent.
I have P215/70R15's on my '69 427/435. According to the window sticker and original sales in voice it came factory equipped with F70-15 white stripe tires, and the P215 is the closest cross reference.
To keep white strip tires I chose Cooper Lifeliner SLE Touring tires. So far they seem to be an excellent choice (four years with no problems and they still look new).
I just ordered, TorqThrusterII 16x8 wheels with 4" backspacing,
I am installing BF Goodrich 235 x16x60
I spent considerable tire research ing the best fitament for OEM configuration..
Yes you could push a larger size under the car, but it might rub !
This was the largest size I felt would fit comfortable with no rubbing.
Why 16's.... personal choice, I don't think the large rim skinny tire,
look as good on the C3's....Why Goodrich ? I sure did not want to see some foregin name tire, on my classic American muscle car !
with Roughrider on the original tire size. Many folks go to a 60 series tire for 'lower' appearance and go a bit wider at the same time. A 235/60/15 has about the same outer diameter as the 215/70/15. It looks better than the original and you shouldn't have to change the speedo gear at all. If you want to be all original, you will have to go to one of the aftermarket tire repro makers [Coker, etc.] and buy some replacement F-70/15's.
Our '68 427/390 wears redline radials from Coker. Up until 2 yrs ago they didn't offer the right size, but now they do.
These are BF Goodrich radials, 215/70-15, redline. So far so good. Great look, very quiet, decent handling for an all season tire.
And yes this is the correct size for '69, too.
