I have a 1972 Corvette that was my dads (I got it when he died). Back in March I hit a deer. The car was red... While at the body shop I found that the original color was Pewter Silver. Being that it is a numbers matching car, it needed painted anyways and my dad was big on it being original, I had it painted back to Pewter Silver. It looks very nice but since I do not ever remember ever seeing anything this color I'm wondering how to verify this would be the right color. It has more of a green tint to it. Wondering if someone could tell me if thats the way it is supposed to be. Get out in the bright sun and it looks bright silver, go in the garage or overcast and it looks green.
The silver colors from the late 60s and early 70s seem to be very difficult duplicate now because of the EPA regulations about the lead in the older paint and the changes in the metallic that's available.
I think the car looks great in your picture, I'd like to see a picture the paint outside.

Alan
The paint code is 924... Looks like I need a better camera. All the pictures I have taken the car has had a red tint and notice now in these pictures even the street has a red tint.. Also is there anyway to find out if it had a black or white top. Best I can find it could be either one. Since the car has black interior I would think black but unsure. No matter I think I'll get black, it will probably look better.

My car was originally pewter silver and while it's now painted in a non original C5 color (light pewter metallic that has brownish tint to it) I know that the original pewter silver does have a slight greenish tint.
It's always difficult to say from pictures how close a paint finnish is to an original, I think yours looks like a good match .
I would agree that a black top would be a better match than the white one. It would blend better with the interior and tires. The white one looks "OK", though.
My 71 was pewter silver when I got it. (not the original color). Looked just like those outdoor photos. Black soft top is a better choice to go with the silver IMHO.
I think the color really looks good outside.
I really like cars to have the colors on them that are from the same era as the car.
I think the new car colors are really great, but I prefer them on resto-rods etc., not stock looking cars.

Dad died a yr ago at 57 of lung cancer. He only had the car for about 5 yrs and it was red when he got it. He found it sitting in a guys barn where it had been for 7 years. I'm sure he had no idea it was supposed to be this color silver. He always went on that he wanted the car to be (mostly) original. So the color for me was an easy choice. I'm not crazy on red but hey if red had been the original color then it would still be red. By mostly original I mean things like... He wanted it to look original but had done some internal stuff like put an alum intake on it, double hump heads and a msd ignition. I'm going to have to see about a radio. He had spent something like $400 having the original radio reconditioned and it still don't work. The sound is all muffled. It needs a ground for the antenna but when you play a cassette you can hardly hear it and it sounds funny.
And yes I still have the original distributor, intake, quadrajet, air cleaner and all that stuff.

If your radio has a cassette I don't think it's original. I'm pretty sure they weren't available in '72
You made a good choice on the color as that is very rare for C3 vettes, was only available in '72 and only 1,372 were painted that color.
I'm in the process of having mine repainted from red to the original pewter silver too!
