Default Windshield Molding retainer clips

I referenced this in a post a couple of weeks ago, but since then I broke the windshield and have pulled it out and used the opportunity to check all the likely rust pockets, luckily its all good. Anyway, I was told on the other post that the clips were held in by screws on my 78, I found where 2 on each side were screwed in by the t-top pillar. No screw holes for the center clips, when they came out they were just held in by the urethane. Should I drill holes and mount the center ones? or was there a reason these werent screwed in?

are you sure there aren't screws? possibly a po had the glass and trim replaced, and the installer didn't realize that the clips had to be in position before the glass was, and he just "glued" the clips in. the holes may be covered with urethane. poke around and you may find holes, or the stumps of broken off screws. when i replaced my clips, i broke several screws and had to drill them out.

If you really can't find the original holes for those clips then I don't see why you couldn't drill a couple of them. The glue will defintely hold them in place but it seems kind of bubba to me.

The windshield molding clips were originally held in place by screws. These are a special undersized phillips head #8x3/8" screw with a washer type head.

L82,
If the trim has been on and off a couple of times you may want to think about new clips while you have the chance. They seem to get metal fatigue after a while and break when your putting the trim back on and then it's too late because the windshield is aleady in.
Regards,
Alan

I ground and repainted the windshield frame down to metal and there are no screw holes other than the 2 on each corner. Maybe it was made on a Friday afternoon?

Got new clips and just going to space three new clips between the existing sides and install. 7 clips should be enough to hold it?

L-82,
Make sure that where you put the clips doesn't interfere with the lip that's on the front edge of the main piece of the windshield header stainless steel trim.

I just put my windshield trim back on and did the windshield clip thing as well. My car only had the 4 outside screw holes as well. That would make 2 identical oversites??? Somehow I don't think so.

My AIM only shows screws on the outer clips. It shows the clips in the center actually connected to the trim spaced out fairly evenly.

Just my .02

Also, if you only need a couple of clips, I believe I have 3 or 4 left over. I bought a new set, so the ones that came off in tact are what I have... Let me know.
