Have replaced speaker on PS of my 74 coupe. No problem.
The DS looks like a PITA. Did search, and found many opp. on how to do it.
The car has org. dash, so moving it around is scary. What is the best way w/o
moving dash around?
The way I did mine was I pulled the Dashpad, replaced the speakers and re-installed the Dashpad. It is impossible to replace the driver's side with the rest of the dash and gauges in place. If found this to be the easiest route for me.
When I replaced my speakers I also had to completely disassemble the the drivers side dash. If you keep things organized and make sure to keep notes on how things go together its fairly straight forward. I also did it when I could work on the project from start to finish (about 2 days for a complete stereo installation)
Pull the dash out,,,,if you're carefull it wont be an issue, just take your time.
One prob I had with mine was I initially went back with a "higher quality" speaker and the magnets were a little larger which meant they hit the speedo assembly. Needless to say the fit wasn't precise and I pulled them.

Lower the steering column, drop and pull out the driver's dash as much as possible, and raise the upper pad as much as you can....then you can just get at the left speaker to remove and replace it. My upper pad was so stiff I didn't want to chance snapping it by bending to remove it.
