BTW, ...... In the service manual there is a section about doing a cylinder balance test. I have read this section several times and still can't make any sense out of it. Anyone ever do this type of test? And what is the objective?

The purpose of it is to let the engine run on fewer cylinders, but on opposing cylinders. If those [operating] cylinders run relatively smoothly, it assumes that they are producing about the same amount of engine torque...hence, operating correctly. If, at any stage of the test, the engine doesn't run smoothly, there's a "bumb" cylinder in the set (plug problem, cam lobe, ring leakage, etc.).

My neighbor was doing a compression check on and off for 2 days trying to find something on his car and afterwards was changing his oil.When he pulled the oil drain plug about 2 qts of gasoline came out first.He left his choke closed while he was doing the check.
