Hey Corvette owners, very nice forum you have here. I don't have a Corvette but do I have a related question to see if someone can help me with a factory color question. I'm restoring a '72 Formula 455HO that was originally code 14 Revere Silver, the same one year only color used on '72 Vette's under code 14/924 Pewter Silver. My car is rare enough (one of 276) that I want to go back to the original color, it was faded black when I got it. From what I've seen of a small area of the original paint left on the side of the cowl, I like it other than it seems to have a faint hint of green in it when it's in the shade. Anyone repainted their car in this factory color and if so, did the green hint seem to show or am I worrying about it for nothing? Did you find it better to go with Dupont or PPG or another supplier? Anyone alter the paint formula or find a modern color match they thought was correct? I want to stay as true to the original look of this car in my resto. as possible so I'm trying to decide if I should stick with the exact paint formula or lessen the green trace slightly so I can live with it. Any pics would be great too, thanks for any help you can give me, Rick
hey Az, thanks for the reply, I've been a member there for a while but very few Pontiac's left painted this color so I figured the Corvette guys would have more experience with the paint possibly. Nice 442 in your avatar by the way, those are some of the best looking and functioning hood scoops, after the Formula scoops of course!
Hi Rick,
I'm sorry I help can't help with a picture.
I did, however, have an opportunity to spend a morning this past October with a newly painted Pewter Silver 72. I thought it was a great color as did some other people who were looking it over. I think if there had been a Cortez Silver 69 right next to it, a person may have said the Pewter car had a 'bit' of green to it. But by itself it was VERY silver.
The color is definitely a 70's color in that the silver is not as brilliant as the silver that is on cars now, but it's still very striking.
I'd vote for the 'right' color!
Regards,
Alan
Alan, thanks for the feedback, I think I'd feel better if I'd seen a freshly painted one in person like that, especially in bc/cc as I think the clearcoat kind of alters/brightens up some of the 60's-70's colors. I have had a couple of people describe it to me as a very rich color which sounds good.
Hey Mike, I didn't know you had a Vette, nice looking car! I can't wait to see the Formula finished too! After nearly 2 years and counting I hope it will be done in about another year. Everything takes me about twice as long as I expect it to

Hi Rick
The car I was looking at was a NCRS type car.
The exterior hadn't been pushed nearly as far as it could have been if you were trying to make it as beautiful as possible.
I really like RED interiors in SILVER cars, but that's not too common.
Regards,
Alan
Frogday, what a nice Formula! A Lucerne Blue 4 speed is about as good as it gets, I think 2/3's or so of the HO cars were automatics like mine so congrats on finding and hanging on to such a rare car. Mine spent much of it's life in Los Angeles and some time in Oregon so not too far from yours before it came to Texas a few years ago. Thanks for posting the pic, seeing one that nice inspires me to keep moving along.
