I too never felt comfortable in my '69 L71 going very much in excess of 100, but care ought to be taken not to lump all C3's together as there are indeed some very potent ones out here capable of a good bit more top speed and lateral G's than others (particularly among those sufficiently modded).
all about aerodynamics and gordonm is right on, NO STOCK CORVETTE HAS EVER GONE 200 except maybe a new ZR!...you are dreaming as many do when they use any calculation to get a top speed. it will take more than a mile and if you don't think so I am sorry to say you have no clue, been 140 in a 70 LT-1 and front was up bad, beenf 155 in 67 435 coupe and front was up really really bad, been 140 in 03 zo6 and was very stable, friends been to 170 in c5 Zs no problem but took over mile to get to speed, not my opinions but real world facts, go check out texas mile and see for yourself what it takes to hit 200mph...very few do it.

Right out of Car Life 1970 Vette VS Z28 roadtest (made the 2 Chevies out to be equals) BUT the guy in the Vette ALWAYS GETS THE GIRL! After the guy gets the girl and has "rug rats" he has to sell the Vette and that is why the Z28 is on the planet

I got it out of a brooklands road test book on camaro's, its just a collection of old camaro road test articles.
One of the more stupid tests I have is of a 69 L88, 3 speed auto
with 3.36 gears. the ragazine guys asked for a 4 speed 4.11
chevy gave them this to test, needless to say with the huge cam
3.36 the car went through the quarter mile in second gear.

There are some nice road race Vette in the SVRA series. They can go as fast as 180mph if my memory serves me correct. They have rules on the motors and chassis.
My buddies engine shop builds Peter Klutts race car motors and I think they said they are limited by the rules but it puts out around 800HP. ( I am going from memory here but I think I am correct )
The car I believe would hit 200mph but it would need a few more ponies. I think somewhere around 1000HP should do it. I believe it can be done with a C3 body
There are a couple of C3's in the 8's at the track with IRS rears so what is that MPH in 8 seconds ?

Restrictor plate NASCAR motors make @550 hp and they can get going over 200 mph.
This 400 some ci injected is way over 200 mph with 700 hp
It's not that interesting but with my '79 I did 101mph yesterday.
This time I had a GPS since my speedo and tach don't work.
It still had a little left and I know that I've driven it a little faster couple of months ago but no way to verify. So best guess is 110, maybe 115.
Stock L-48, stock everything, including 30 year old front and rear end...
To be honest, I wouldn't be interested in anything faster then this..well twist my arm, maybe 124.28 mph since that is exactly 200km/h.
When I'm done with my other motor (6-9 months) I'd be more interested in 0-60 and 0-100.

Well they gear the SVRA cars for the tracks they are running at and I remember my buddy saying the he ( Klutt ) was hitting the rev limiter in the straights so maybe just a lower gear and he's there.
Look at that. No front spoiler, no hood vents, no rear wing. I wonder what is under that medium rise hood, supercharger?

This is from just one of the years I was out at Bonneville salt flats
The pink Vette is just a smaller ci gasoline injected motor.
Every home builder has an idea to make a car more aerodynamic. This guy gas 8 injection tubes and just thought about why not route the air over the top of the car better than have turbulence?
The late 60's Vette named "Sundowner" car comes out every couple of years and they let all their friends drive over 200 mph with 700 or so HP It is not such a big deal with a little bit of thought
Way to many morons and out right pussies on this forum It's not the front end getting light it's some brain dead person behind the wheel that doesn't know how to correct problems with our older cars
I really feel sorry.................. When I was kid I made my 1972 Vega GT hatch back fast. V-8 Vega conversion kit. I raise hell in a unsafe nearly 400 hp car in the 70's Get a life and don't call your self a Vette person!
Way to many morons and out right pussies on this forum like your turtle vette dude. Just pond scum of the world that bought some roached out rusted Vette for $500 bucks and can't figure out why his 20 year old weather checked sun cracked tires go flat, so he would not dare spend $900 on a good set of tires to make it get out of his mud drive way. Crap I'd be scared to to drive it too, or just to sit in some stinky moldy *** old rotted seat with a loose steering wheel. Much less driving it 100 mph. It's not the front end getting light it's some brain dead Turtle behind the wheel

Who was the originator of that quote?
Watch the movie World's Fastest Indian. An old man from New Zealand takes his Indian bike to Bonneville and used shoe polish to fill in the dry rot cracks in his tires to pass tech. That's the friggin *****.
He is right about me though, i used to run my tires on the vette until they corded and blew out when in college. I'm not quite as bad these days.
And one more thing. I did not buy my car roached out. It was in pretty good shape when i bought it in 80. I proudly ragged it out all by myself.

If engine cooling is not an issue ( winter-spring time) does it help to keep the nose down to reduce the pressure in the area in front of the radiator ?remove sealing foam at top of radiator , keep open the holes from that area toward the fender wells...
my front end gets a little light and unresponsive when I am only going a couple mph to about 60 mph then it comes back down again and I get responsive steering again. I dont know why that is though.
I never did find out how fast this was running. You just need to get on the rules for Bonneville SCTA and find out what class these cars were in
I have commented in the past about the stock headlights in a C3 and them acting as a lift device at speed, or at least a speed brake....
which is one small reason I went Ecklers sugar scoops, something similar with plexi over top, or some such trick has been done on almost all the C3 speedsters I have seen.....
today, I just ducked the issue on plexi over top of the lights, and left the rear of the scoops/trays open in the rear where the old lights were mounted....reduced openings in front due to smaller bulbs too....not claiming any huge advantage, just a thought.....
I get around to fixing the suspension this winter, it's wearing and has a bent upper arm....
