Default Baffled
Are baffles necessary?
My new rocker covers don't have them and I am burning oil with smoke on start up which I suspect might be due to this?

You will if you have a PCV valve in the system. The oil splashing up on the PCV valve will just get sucked into the intake, if it isn't baffled.

do the lack of baffles cause any more oil on the valve seals?

Shouldn't make any difference to the valve seals.

Sounds like dirty plugs and smoke from the exhaust is a real likelyhood?
