Default oiling bearings

would there be a downside to priming my crate engine once in a while with a priming tool to lube the bearings while it sits? at the rate i'm going, it won't be running for quite a while.

There is no downside at all, in fact its a good thing to keep the internals all nice and wet. Go for it.

No 'downside'...but I don't know that it is necessary, as long as you seal the engine intake off. Why not just start it once a month?

Tough to keep it running in that small crate!(just kidding) It is on a stand and as previously mentioned, I am no ball of fire, especially mechanically

I say this in no way disrespectful,or in no bad way,but your honesty is nice to see.
Your baby will come together, cause you are a humble man.
Priming it is fine, and probably not needed, but only takes a couple minutes, and sure won't hurt it.

It won't hurt and will give you something to do while you get the $$$ or time or whatever is holding you up in completing your project. However, don't get "stuck in time"...... I knew a guy who spent months spray painting his empty short block and heads. Whenever I went by his house he was out in his garage spray painting. I think he must have sucked a couple of cans worth into his lungs. Money and time weren't his problem......., motivation was. Good Luck.
