Default Small Block Engine Numbers

I just inherited a complete small block engine and could use some help interpreting the numbers. Casting number: 3970010 (350 with 2 or 4 bolt mains?) Pad - 2 numbers: 111201979 (1979 ?) and K0609CGC.

Thanks for the help.

What you have is a '71 350/245hp used in the full size chevy and in the El Camino. This is indicated by the CGC suffix. The first number 111201979 would be the VIN deritive where the last 5 or 6 digits match the last of the VIN of the car that the engine was installed in. The other, K0609CGC, is the engine usage and it translates as K=engine plant (Vette engines come from the Flint plant, code V), 0609=asssembly date (Jun 9), CGC=usages as described above.

I show the CGC stamp only used in 71 on the 350 but not a vette engine. What is your block date code. It's just to the pass side of the distributor.
