That is fine for a roller motor to seat the rings. Not the answer for a flat tappet. The 20 to 30 minute break in is critical. It mates the lifters to the cam lobes and actually hardens the surface of the lobes to reduce future wear and failure

I have a video of our Breakin with flat tappet for a 79 with a complete Top-End Rebuild if anyone's interested. And Redline Oil is one of the best true synthetic oils that maintains a high level of ZDP. It is expensive though but how often will you be doing oil changes in any given year on your classic vette? Is it worth it?

Yes.

Read this and do it:

The 20-minute break-in is absolutely crucial for the metal to mate and the chemical process between the oil and the metal to occur creating a surface on the cam lobe.
