Default Carpet Issue

I just installed new carpet in my 69 vette and can't get the carpet smoothed out around the tunnel area. Does anybody have any pointers they can share to cure this problem. It looks worse than the pictures attached.

Heat the area up with a heat gun (hair dryer) to smooth it out (it sometimes works better if you can heat the back side). Remove the trim so you can get it tucked up under it a little better. Also, some carpet adhesive in that area will help keep it down also, but try just heat first.

When I did the carpet in my 1980, I had somewhat the same problem in some areas. I had to trim some of the carpet on the edges where it wouldn't lay. Good luck.

Use some chalk to mark a line on the carpet where it fits under the console. Pull the carpet out and trim the excess carpet so that it can't 'bunch up' when it is pushed under the console (leave only an inch or two for stuffing it back it).

There has been lot's of talk about about 4-speed car carpet sets and auto- trans. car carpet sets. I BELIEVE the auto-trans. underbody had a 'bulge' to clear the transmission, and thus the carpet did too. It looks like you have an auto trans. set of carpets, and I see a 4-speed shifter.
Is that what's going on here?
Regards,
Alan

Heat guns work ok, but watch out for to much heat due to the carpoet being basically---plastic. Using a steamer is really the best if you can get access to one. It allows the carpet to be shaped without the possiblity of damaging the carpet. If you use a heat gun---just be aware of the amount of heat.. BEEN THERE, DAMAGED THAT BEFORE. "DUB"
