Sorry if the pics suck.. there from my phone. Well you can see the spring in the 2nd pic Jim. That's where I'm at. I feel horrible that I'm this bad at disassembling this thing..

Still haven't a clue on how to get to the plate underneath..

You are using the wrong tool. ...Use the steering wheel puller for that....You really need to sit down and read Jim Shea's papers #1 and #2 re: T/T steering wheel column dis assembly before you go any further....It don't get any easier, the deeper you go but with Jim's step by step directions, it can be done.....And yes....your pictures do suck

That's those high-res, 1st generation razor pics.. some of the best.. Ok so there's another tool that gets that off.. They really didn't want people ripping apart their columns did they?

Actually Tim's is better. The clarity is not as good but the order detail is better.

And they didn't want the wheel falling off in your hands.

This isn't a Corvette steering wheel but the tool being used is the same puller that you need. You need this puller to remove the Hub #3949110. Please refer to the steering wheel blowup that I included yesterday.

After you get the hub off, you will be able to remove the Lower Contact Asm #12. It has the big spring on the bottom.

Next you will find a plastic retainer. Most of the time it will break into pieces because it is old and brittle. You may be able to find it at automotive stores or order one at a GM dealer #7808385.

Then use your special tool to compress the toothed locking plate and remove the C-clip. Also shown in previous pictures that I included.

You should make contact with a local Corvette club. I am sure that they would have someone that could provide some guidance. Particularly when you are first starting out, things can be very new and confusing. It is quite important to learn some of the basic terminology so that you can communicate effectively over the net.

Good luck,
Jim

Got it done.. New cylinder still didn't solve the problem of non-locking key. Subsequently, key won't release from cylinder.

Edit: Stupid interlock cable was the main problem here.. It's fixed and almost done.. Thanks again guys.

Ya,I bet you wished that you had read that other post from the guy that had the interlock cable problem before you took the column apart, hu ? Oh well, chalk it up to a good learning experience and a chance to get to know your girl a little better....I'm glad she's all better
