If you are talking about the parking brake console, there is a bolt in the rear that you have to get to from thru the compartment doors in the rear. A real PITA. If you are talking about the shifter console, there is two studs on the guage panel that go thru the floor console backet.

If you are talking about where the shifter console meets the center bezel there is a U Bracket that holds the center bezel - on my '70 there are two studs that slip in by pressure that are located under the radio. Is that what you are talking about?

I believe that the 'U' bracket is slotted for those studs. If you take the two side plates off the front end of the console, you can just get a small (1/4") ratchet and short socket in there to loosen them up. Leave the nuts on the studs but back them off so you can slide the console back and out. If you find that the stud holes are not slotted, remove the flared-head nuts; the 'U' bracket will tilt as you slide the console back and might release the studs, anyway. If that is the case, you might want to slot them (from the front) before you reinstall them. The flared-head nuts should hold the studs tightly to that bracket with slots. (If you slot the bracket, put the nuts on the studs loose before you install the console....much easier that way.)

You might want to view a picture of a console from some of the catalogs/web to see how the center console looks. Also, I don't know if you have gotten this far - you must take off the metal shifter plate - on a automatic put in neutral, unscrew button, then ****, lift plate front and out. Once all that is done , as said above, then slide the console backwards and out. (before lifting out shifter plate you must disconnect lighter, etc before pulling out.) (before lifting out console disconnect optics). The seats are connected with 4 - 1/4" lag screws or bolts - must easier to work on this area with seats out. Also, while you are doing this PITA - replace lite bulb on heaterAC control, and you might just as well redye carpet while you are there(especially if you take seats out).
