Hi David,
This is a question that's asked quite often.
The consensus is that it would take a LOT of money and a LOT of work to do successfully. There would be frame problems, many EXPENSIVE parts to buy, serious body modifications, and many hours of work. The finished product would not be worth the money it took to do the modification.
It would be better to sell the 76 and buy a 68-72 car.
