Default Seat Adjuster Guide

Putting the seats back in my 68 vert. They were recovered and I made the mistake of not getting holes for the seat adjuster guides. Plus I feeel it may stretch the upholstery to the point of tearing it.
Question: Can you go without those guides without hurting anything.
thanks

What are you calling "seat guides"? Seat back bumpers, maybe? Post a pic.

There is a small bracket which is attached with two screws to the bottom of the seat. Through it goes the rod with the **** at the end to slide the seat forward or back.
The AIM calls them seat adjuster guides.

Hi B,
I believe the guide limits how far the **** and rod can travel side to side and also gives the rod a bit of support if a person were to push DOWN too hard on the ****.
I think things would work without the guide, the guide is a bit of insurance.
Regards,
Alan

Are you talking about the slotted curved plate that fits at the l.f. corner of the seat frame that the seat slide lever passes through?

If so it's held to the seat frame with 2 sheet metal screws into pre-punched holes. You won't tear the upholstery as the holes should be right below the material in the seat frame. Use an awl or "ice pick" tool to find the holes and punch through the seat upholstery.

As stated above , the seats will have to be out of the car.

Base:

The guides screwed to the bottom of the seat frame and the forard edge of the seat cover is tucked and clipped (in circle) down. The covers should not be in the way of installing these guides on the seat and you should be able to see the holes. I think this might be what is confusing people.

Wilcox

My seats were recovered and the fabric stretches over the area for the screws. I am considering just doing without them.

These must be custom seat covers. How in the world are you going to get the adjusters on there?

The way these covers are mounted on the seats there really is no way for you to install the guides so you'll just have to take your chances. The guides just kept the lever from hitting the cover when you pulled it so you will need to be careful adjusting the seats.

that what I was thinking. I may try to find some way to help prevent the scraping. The seats will probably not get moved 1-2 times a year.
