Can anyone tell me which rochester carbs will be a direct fit to my 69 427 4 speed.
Which will specifically bolt right on with no problems at all. I keep reading conflicting threads saying only 68-69 big block 4 speed rochesters will directly fit.
What differences are there between the small block and big block rochesters? Internally and externally if anything.
Are there only certain years that will bolt on? I thought I read the fuel inlet changed after 72?
The only significant differences are in the linkage and periperal items on the carbs. All should mount up OK. If you have the original linkage components, just swap them over.
What I currently have on the shelf is a 68 427 4 speed corvette rochester (stripped fuel inlet) and on the car I have a remanufactured 71 350 carb from a truck.
I thought about switching the linkage components on the carbs I have because the throttle cable on the current truck carb doesnt open the carb all the way.
I figure if I can put the 68's linkage parts on the truck one, it may work properly.
The problem is the 71 remanufactured carb has a screw which looks like the linkage can be removed. On the 68 original carb, the linkage on the carb looks like it is held on by a fastener that looks kinda like the head of a nail smashed. (its not a nail though)

If your original carb has stripped threads, I can fix it for you. Drop me an e-mail for info V8FastCars@msn.com
The difference between big block and small block carbs that makes a difference in "swapability" is that the BB carbs have the bottom half of the throttle lever cut off to clear the intake manifold. If you cut the SB carb lever like the BB carb, you can run any 1969-1974 Chevy Q-Jet without problem.
I don't have an original carb, what I was told was original decodes out to a 68 carb. That is the one with stripped threads.
I than tried to see I could use the 68 carb to trade in for another carb and was told by one guy that the base is not correct and is from an newer 70s carb.
Since it is not the original carb, i figured it would be easier to get a remanufactured one for now that fits on the car. Maybe later try to get a much more expensive numbers correct carb.
I'm not sure what to do with the 68 carb with the bad fuel inlet. Im also not sure what to do with the carb on the car which is froma 71 350 truck.
Lars, what is the bottom part even used for on the throttle on the small block carbs?
Mine was 4 times that price (refurbished). Its date specific to when my car came off the assembly line. (catalog # C1670) won't be date specific. But it will fit your car to a tee.
