Default Beware Summit Racing

Just a heads up about Summit Racing. There is something going on and they are extremely lame. The last couple of orders I have placed have been screwed up. I asked for a tracking number for my latest order and two days later they tell me their ordering system was messed up. I told them they need to communicate and they sent me to some non-working link. This is totally not acceptable. Something is NOT working there and I will never order from them again. And I have ordered over $6k in the last year from them.

I have never had a problem with them. As far as the computer being down.

Things like this happen.

Even the Space Shuttle has bad days and it cost billions to build

It woul take a lot more than a hardware or software mess that needs to be corrected to make me stop buying from them.

Everybody makes mistakes, that's why they put erasers on pencils ...

Seriously, I never had an issue with them, they have always been more than helpful, I'd say give them another chance.

Hopefully, just a computer 'glitch'. There is a dreaded infection going around various companies in the U.S. ...it's called 'incompetence'. The practice of hiring cheaper and cheaper labor, [until they hire folks that can't find the end of their nose] is the culprit. The only way to 'cure' this infection is to quit buying products from that company. Hopefully the disease will be cured before the patient is dead.

The forum just went through two days of issues with no or limited access to the site. I had my hard drive crash and had no way to retrieve information I needed. My point is these things happen. You have bought $6000 from them in the last year. I have bought over $10,000 from them in the last 2 or 3 years. Dozens of orders. Dozens of phone calls for everything from tech support to finding parts not even listed on their website. Never an issue. Always a real person on the other end of the line doing their very best to help me. Always received my item quickly and well packaged. I ordered a set of spark plug wires last Wed night and got them Fri morning. Now you are going to bail on these guys because of a technical glitch more than likely totally beyond their control? Another thing that may be affecting this is that Summit has probably less than half the business they had 2 years ago because of the economy. The first thing you cut back on when you get in a little bit of a pinch is uneccesary purchases. There are a lot of projects and race cars sitting now. These guys have warehouses all over the country and fixed operating costs just to store their inverntory. They probably had to cut back on employees and reduce inventory just like everybody else. Do what you want. I will stick with them. They have the widest selection at the best prices and have always gone above and beyond as far as customer service in the last 20+ years I have been buying from them..

Interesting point about employees. I have to admit I used to sometimes get the wrong parts. Now I would a guy who is great. He is their technical Specialist Norm at extension 6652. Ever since I started calling him I always get the correct parts. Also, if you know generically what you want, say new seat belts for example, he researches it and gives you great recommendations. I use him exclusively and have been very happy.

I've had 3 problems with Summit Racing in over 25 years.
It was sometime before I had internet access in 2000 because I phoned in my order on SuperBowl Sunday afternoon...NOT during the game, mind you. But hours before. Everything was screwed up in that order! I called to complain and they sent a UPS pickup ticket for the whole shipment to be returned. It finally got corrected but took quite some time to sort out.

The other was disc brake pads. I took a snapshot (thank goodness for digital cameras) of what they sent me and what came off my GMC ZR2 Sonoma. It seems their whole batch was mislabeled from the vendor.

Last problem was the missing installation instructions for Wilwood disc brakes for my '69 Chevelle. They sent photocopys in a separate envelope a few days later.

I did get an apology every time. And in all the years I've been doing business with them, they did send along some special $$$ saving offers as an incentive to give them another chance...10% off everything in their catalog and a free 25th anniversary jacket. Most recently was 15% off everything in their tool catalog.

You've got to expect a few glitches from a company that stocks as many parts as they do and allows you to shop from the comfort of your home. Summit was the only e-tailer who had iridium spark plugs in stock for my Harley FatBoy. And at a fantastic price. I also find their website easier to use than Jeg's.

They'd have to be a lot more lame than your experience Marz, for me to stop doing business with Summit. And that's coming from a guy who has stopped doing business with lots of firms who treat their customers like crap. Or outright lie, like Corvette America.

Summit Racing is the BEST internet vendor I've ever dealt with, (Willcox Corvette comes closely second). I buy from them most of my needs from RTV silicon tubes to a whole set of tires! .. Actually I just ordered a new Lincoln MIG welding machine from them and its on the way through UPS to Qatar!

Buttom line, if Summit is doing great business to a 10,000 miles away customer, then it should do even better to a customer living near by!

In all the years and thousands of $$ I've spent at Summit, I've never once had a problem. Had to return a couple items, once cause I ordered the wrong part and again because of a manufacturer defect-no fault of Summit's. They'll continue to get my business

And thanks to thier store in Reno, I get in-stock parts the next day if I order before noon

More times than not, I can get the right part faster from Summit than from a local parts store. They fix my mistakes as quickly as they fix their own.

Hope they get their system back up and running quickly and hope you get your issue sorted out too.

Summit seems to work very well for me. I have placed three orders in the last two months and everything arrived as expected and the shipping time was very good. Sorry to hear you are having problems with them. As noted in this thread I'm sure it is probably a computer problem and they will get it sorted out soon.

Got rid of all the " Compensated " Experienced guys and keep all the new hires at a fraction of the costs ?
