xeylene will remove the adhesive and this is available at the home depot in the paint solvent area. i also had to elongate some holes in the hardware to get everything to line up. this was because the "j clips" i used were just a Home depot variety and were not exactly the right size but a round file took care of all my issues.
Thanks for the compliment Silver !
Once you get a corner of the glass undone from the adhesive I just continued to slowly push it out and it came right out without any problem. 3M adhesive works the best for removing the old adhesive . It really needs to be cleaned off real good. I also used it to remove the old adhesive on all of my weathersrtip last year also ,best stuff I ever used.
Here is a hint somebody told me, get everything pretty much together before you install the new gasket and when you do install it you can put the window in and that will hold the gasker in place while it dries, you don't want it to move on you or it will leak like a sieve.
I also had a heated window so I just cut back and taped the wires and disconnected the on and off switch.
Good luck
Here it is with the new rear window

Silver 73 here is a web site that shows how to do the conversion EuropeanCorvette.com
When you get to the web site click on Tec info and then click on Corvette c3 and you should be all set, also shows how to install the shelf to hold your new window, great site!!
Sorry you will have to type in the site , I couldn't get the link to work.

Hey Dario, Thanks for the website, that will really help and there's alot of good "how to" information on that site. Also, thanks for the pictures of your car. I love a black car, and your's is one of the nicest I've seen.
Hi S73
This is a j-clip with a screw in it, the clip is mounted on a tab that's on the birdcage hinge-pillar.
These clips are used MANY places on the exterior and interior where the installation of the part limits the installer's access to the back of the fastener... thus no nut.
Regards,
Alan
I'm glad that I was able to remember that site, it helped me out when I did mine.
Also so many people think my car is " Black " actually it's Ebony Chestnut with gold Metal flake in it, really looks good in the sun, here is about the only picture I have of it that might show the true color.
Good luck with your project and let me know if you need any more info.
Again make sure you get the best glass and frame that you can afford.

good picture on the J clip .....remenber some have a cut edge for sheetmetal screws.....and others have a more substantial threaded area for machine threads
I removed old window and it came out easy but trying to remove the old adhevise was hell but I finally got it off.
What did you use to cut your roof panels to accept new latches?
Anyvette, I used a curoff wheel and an air gun, its only plastic so any had saw will do,hack saw will work. Best bet would be to purchase a set of halo panals that already have the cut outs in them, and not ruin your originals. Plus its going to be real hard trying to align the cut out with the latch area. If you just cut out your originals you will need a set of Bezels because the cut out area will look bad and unfinished.
This is a Halo panal the was made with the cut-out .
Here is how I carry my rear window and frame when I have it out. I was not willing to pay the $200.00 - 300.00 cost of the original holders ebay had that I found and my idea works just as good, good luck with your project , I actually had fun doing mine.
The pictures shows how the storage tray works , last picture shows it latched into position with the window in it , hidden and " safe " and out of site. All for around $12.00 ,its a closet shelf from Home depot, won't pass a Concourse Corvette show ,but mine is a driver anyways.
Dario
I got all excited thinking that my new removeable rear window was almost in. Now the obvious bites me in the azz. I never thought about the bezels for the window to mount into?
I just contacted J&D Corvette to see if they have it. I will try E bay next.
If that doesn't work, what are my options? I imagine that something could be fabricated if nece$$ary! Thoughts?
Window does not mount into the Bezels, the Bezels just make for a factory and cleaner look for the Halo cutout ,conversion can be done without them. The hard part is getting hold of a reasonable priced rear window and alum frame.

I was going to have my glass many put my rear window project together.
I then realised that the Vette Dr might have the parts in his parts cars?
I just spoke to him and he will call me tomorrow. He thinks he has the parts. If he has any extra parts, I will let the forum know.
The details in a project that you don't find out until you do it, are a
ball breaker!
Well I did mine over the holidays and it turned out ok.When they say you need two hands for the weatherstripping they are right, and cut it first, it will not fit.I had to trim the outside flap off for some reason in order for it to fit.
