Default Wiper door level adjustment

My 71 wiper door does not sit level when closed. It is touching the windshield on one side while almost 1/2 high on the front side. It works fine - just not level. Any help with adjustments?

This can be a real pain to get just right. But the door assm. is shimmed at the fire wall to set the gap at the windshield. The mounting bolt holes are also slotted to move the unit up and down. Also when the door is in the closed position it will sit on the front of the air intake grill to make that hieght correct, if the grill is mounted to far away from the door the door will miss the grill and sit way to low. Also to remember is that the chrome piece at the windshield can be moved some as can your nood move some too. In any case you have a very tough job to get this all correct but just take your time and it will be ok.

Hi Jack,
The advice MA gave is right on. He's right that the 'level' of the door is set in the front by the fact that the door sits on the 'ledge' on the rear of the wiper grill. In the rear the door is set by the adjustment screw on each side. You can see the screw, the little flat nut that's used to adjust it, and the white nylon pad that acts as the stop for the head of the screw in these pictures.
Good Luck! Getting the door and grill aligned can be quite a puzzle.
Regards,
Alan

Just a warning. Do not unbolt the door from the brackets unless absolutely necessary. The thread size of the bolts is very small. The door is an aluminum alloy and with age the bolts become corrosion welded. It's very likely the bolts will shear off if you try to remove them. I sheared one and the torque that caused the shear was so small that I didn't even realize it had sheared. I went to J&D to get a "new" door. They must have had 40 or 50 in a bin. I had to look at just every one to find one that had all four mounting holes in good condition; i.e. didn't have a sheared off bolt in a hole.

Since I never plan on driving in the rain, I'll reinstall my door just so it looks like it fits. Won't matter if It's not realigned if I have to use it once!!

Ditto that warning! And, if those screws have been broken off in days gone by, and a repair was done incorrectly, the wiper door would be "cattiwompus" just like you are describing.

I decided to remove my door for cleaning and managed to snap off 3 of these tiny bolts. It cost me $650 to have them fixed. That was after I attempted to fix them myself.
