Default Fan or Control?

My vent motor died. Is there an easy way to tell if it's the motor or the controls?

Default I believe the vent motor is a vacuum actuator.

It sounds like u are asking 'bout the vent controls in the ductwork and side panels - not the electric fan motor on the fire wall (engine side).
Get out your MightyVac brake bleeder and once connected to the actuator u can pump it down to observe operation. The actuator under the dash will be very difficult to access.

Yes. Remove the rubber connector on the 12vdc power line going to the blower motor, make certain that the blower motor is grounded properly (use ohmeter to verify zero ohms between the ground lug on the blower motor and [actual] chassis ground), then run #10 or #12 jumper wire from the output lug on the alternator to the power input lug on the motor. The motor should run at full speed. If it doesn't turn, the motor is bad; if it doesn't turn at full speed, the motor is still 'bad'. If it does run well, the "control" circuit is defective.
