Awesome So what would be a good carb that i would be able to use on a GM Performance Parts 350 and that i could slap onto my current engine in the mean time.
Hey fellow ´75 owner! Good luck on the restoration process! I have been with mine since 2007, and still am not quite done yet, but its been awesome fun along the road! Just enjoy every step, and make sure to log it on here. Thats something that I wish I had done when I started!
On the drivers side the idle solenoid is missing and on the pass side the air valve actuating rod is missing (really all that can be seen from the pic).
The rod missing can cause the airvalve to open rather quickly and bog.

If you are looking at the 350 cubic inch/290 hp motor, it won't come with an intake.
You can re-use your cast iron intake and carb. You can pick up a reman Quadrajet from a lot of places like Summit, Jeg's, etc.
Ok quick shots of the balancer and the distubritor
very helpfully has been painted orange -
is the metal coming off the base of the distributor behind that valvy thing right? -
I was just out there trying to rotate the engine. Is this something I can do with all the belts and stuff still attached? That fan is not making things any easier as well. Any hints on how to get to the bolt to loosen the distributor, all my wrenches were to big and i had no room to move.
Actually, I forgot what a pain it is to get a socket wrench on the front when the fan shroud is on there. You can try bumping it a little at a time with the key but that is tricky.
Ok, just took some pics and by some INSANE coincidence, when I shut the motor off, it was right at top dead center. This is what you want to see to set the rotor at #1.
In this pic, the black fork holds the distributor tight. You need to loosen that bolt. Without a distributor wrench, you need to sneak a wrench in there at an angle.
Thanks to pops I finally got a long wrench and was able to turn the motor. Here is what i have.
Looks like its pointing at number 5, i have the distrubitor loose, where does it have to be spun too?

That looks 180* out, you need to turn the motor again and it should be pointing opposite of where it is now.
I just did alot of work on my 75 so if you have any specific 75 questions i might be able to help. I have a ton of pictures in my photobucket (ssenay72 there also) that might help. Now i have to work on my 80! ugh!
I did rotate the engine again and spun the distributor so everything lined up, got it running again and just need to do the timing. The strange this is as soon as it turned over the headlights popped up. The lights were off, i tried to turn them off and on but the lights stayed up. Any suggestions?

You knocked a vaccuum line loose, most likely the one show in the pic above that goes to the intake manifold. Look at your pic, between the air cleaner and distributor, there is a hex-head fitting. That is the main vacuum feed for the headlights.
Look at the middle of the pic, about a third of the way across between the air cleaner and the distributor, there is a "G" cast into the manifold right above it.
