What in God name is wrong with this fricking junk. Cant they make something that isnt plastic that will last more than 3 hood openings?I guess its bust the hood open time, buy a new hood and use fricking hood pins. Or just put this 30 year of pile of **** in the fore sale section. Either way i am not impressed at all with this junk.

Get an old fashioned choke cable, cut the **** part off, and cut it to length. Grease the shet out of it and install. While you're at it, cut the old cable up and make an emergency cable that lays down the firewall.
OH God No i love my Dogs, they are the only thing that makes me happy when stuff goes bad in the Garage. I was able to get the hood open, Thank God. And will try to come up with a better solution which will involve a steel cable from someplace?
I also got the thermostat leak looked after, and the tranny pan leak will now require me to remove the new exhaust which was just installed. God i love this car. At least the tranny builder gave me a free gasket... That was nice of him. I will kick him in the nuts when i go pick it up this afternoon. lolol.
trade ya cars lol. just did all the crap on mine tried to figure out a bog. lead to dizzy module then lead to a bad coil. then lead to rust in my fuel tank. then got all that running which lead to my ALT dieing which has now lead to none of my gauges working that has lead to the gauges not working cuz my power window relay took a crap gotta love it
sit back relax and have a beer

Hence the name "Grumpy" nyuk, nyuk.
I was in the same frame of mind a year or so ago. Amputated the whole craapy apparatus and put in magnets. Seems to work perfectly and no more removing the grill to access the bottom of the hinges to remove the hood, and of course no more scratches in my new paint.

Tell me more about this Magnet deal you built? Any pictures. What size of magnets
Hey John. I hope to hear back from you on this magnet deal sounds like a great idea? You have had no problems with air pressure under the hood wanting to lift the hood up? How much effort do you need to use to lift the hood off the magnets?
Did you leave the factory hooks on the hood itself to bond to the magnets, or did you install something else.
Hi Sheldon
First of all you need an L88 hood so you have a hand grip to lift and lower the hood. The magnets I used are called 20 lb magnets. They are 3"OD x 7/16" thk
and are like a flat donut inside a stainless holder. I just removed the hood pins and latch and bolted the magnets in were the pins were and put a piece of 1/4" plate steel were the latch was. Works great, and I have to thank the Forum member who planted the idea in my head when I did my rant on here.
I can't imagine engine bay wind pressure lifting it but I haven't had it on the road yet, I've only been at this 5 years now !!!
I will post pics but it will have to wait until I get back to Red Deer. I am working in Northern Sask. and won't be home until Aug. 8th.
Not sure i know what you mean by hand hold, but i will see if i can get a steel cable made here in Regina, if not i will try the magnet deal with the hood i have, It is very thick and beefy and should not be a problem to grab in the middle and open.

I am forgetting mine is a 69 with a wiper door. Maybe you can get your fingers in with a standard hood ???
