Default Help Please

G'day Guys,
I have been sorting out some of the wireing in my 69 vert and when I removed the center console, I found a 1/8'' rod located along the right side running through to the rear of the car. It looks as though it is a genuine fitment but I'm at a loss as to what it's for, anyone know? there is an orange wire laying loose with a connector that looks as though it should be plugged onto the end of it, but this is alive wire and sparks fly if you should try to connect it. If anyone wants a photo I will gladly email one to them.

Thanks,

Mark

The "rod" is a steel tube that supplies vacuum to the "Astro vent" actuator located in the bulkhead of the rear compartment. The orange wire could be for the cig lighter which is always hot.

Hi Mark,
I think what you found MAY be a tube, not a rod. There should be a tube that runs all the way to the rear compartment which is the vacuum supply to operate your Astro-Ventilation vents in the rear deck. There should be a small vacuum hose from the heater/defroster control connected to the tube.
I'm not sure about the orange wire?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Gary, you're faster than I am. At least we were thinking the same thing!

There should be a wire going to the cigarette lighter...it's orange. The other one should be gray. (verified on a '69 wire diagram and on MY orange wire that isn't connected either)

Default tube, orange wire

Alan, Duke You are both correct the tube is the astro ventilation, and the orange wire that is always hot is for the cig lighter. I was just in my console last week replacing the vacuum hose that goes to the tube and had to unplug the orange wire from the cig lighter, and that is how i know you are exactly rite. Oh by the way Gary you spell your name wrong its with two R's like mine Garry ===== LOL. There is your answer Mark, Good Luck.
