Default Stp oil

How good is the Stp oil treatment and how much of a boost of zddp will it give?

STP says it has "sufficient" ZDDP. If you look for their red label (for 4-cylinder cars) the ZDDP level is about double than the blue container of STP.

If you use the motor oil with ZDDP you don't need any additives.

STP merely 'thickens' the oil. Waste of money, IMO. But, it made Andy Granitelli rich!

Dear Mr. Long,

Thank you for contacting us about STP Oil Treatment. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers.

The STP Oil Treatment in the blue bottle does contain ZDDP. When you add one bottle of the oil treatment to 4 to 5 quarts of oil it will provide you the same protection as older motor oils once provided. The red bottle only contains slightly more. I hope this information helps you.

Again, thank you for contacting us.

Sincerely,

Patti Copper

Hmmmm why was I putting it in my 'Cuda in 79 ? ....

Actually it seemed to raise the oil pressure when you first put it in if I remember correctly

Sure, any 2,035,684 weight will do that for ya.

Snake oil in my opinion. However, back in the day, we used to use it as transmission oil in our shovelheads.

I've been using STP Oil Treatment for the last 40 years and NEVER had any problems with it. During my 4 years in college I had a 1964 Ford Falcon that I drove home every weekend (250 miles round trip) plus driving during the week. In all I put on 140,000 miles on the 'ole Falcon. I did change the oil (using 1 can of STP Oil Treatment with each change) every 4000 miles. When I graduated, I put new heads on the 289 for increased HP. The original heads was in perfect condition...no sludge or anything like that...so I'm SOLD on STP. Ever since, I have used in ALL my cars without ANY problems, oil burning or anything...1974 BB Corvette, 1978 Buick Regal, 1968 VW Beetle (modified the engine in that one), 1972 Buick LeSabre, 1980 & 1984 Ford Thunderbird, 1983 BMW 325i, 1989 Mazda MX6, 1994 Nissan Sentra, 2001 BMW Z3, 2006 Honda Civic SI and my pride and joy, 1975 Corvette convertible. So IMHO, STP is tops and will continue to use it.

This is what you call circumstantial evidence. Go to the website www.bobistheoilguy.com there is a section there where people have posted virgin oil sample results. I have seen the blue STP on there a few times. Your best bet would be to go to autozone and get valvoline VR1. If you must pour in a ZDDP additive, the one called ZDDPlus has tested to have over 10K ppms, a lot more than STP.
