Vin S + 5 question
Quick question on the S + 5
My vin number ( only on title, wont see car till weekend ) has a 5 where it should have an S for St Louis and theres an S four digits from the end. Which I presume should be a 5.
This normal? DMV typo?

I'd think the VIN tag was misread and not a DMV typo.
I'd think a person not too familiar with the VIN sequence could goof it up.
Even in GOOD condition they can be a bit tricky to read. Note the S and 5 in this one.
Time will tell!

Same here when I bought mine. There was a digit missing on the cars' title so my car was "almost numbers matching".
As Alan said, it happens. I went to the Quebec equivalent of the DMV and they corrected it without fuss... non issue (up her anyway).

5 is the plant code for Bowling Green. S for St. Louis. Is your car an 81 or 82? If so, the 5 could be correct.
Likewise, it could also be a typo error.
There should be no aplha characters in the consecutive unit number.

If the typo is actually on the title you will be receiving, there is some cause for concern. At the least, there will be some 'issue' with getting it licensed, as the VIN on the title is incorrect; at the worst, the title could be faked.
