At long last I'm coming to the end of preserving my 76 L48.

Came to start her yesterday and she started o.k. but after 30 secs running started to be very erratic on tick over and up the rev range.

I don't think I touched anything underneath whilst prepping and painting. Would it be wise to replace plugs, leads, elec. ignition etc. as I have'nt used the car much over the last 10 years when these items were replaced. Is there anything else I should replace that can affect the running. There has always been a 'flat' spot at around 3k and upwards rpm.

Any advice appreciated.

James. U.K.

Probably won't get much of a response here, ask a moderator to move it to the appropriate forum

Sounds like you just need a good tune and setup on the carb and ignition system. If the problem occurred suddenly you might want to check for any vacuum hoses you might have disconnected or knocked loose while doing the work.

Could be a failure of the ignition module {in the HEI distributor}. Better to try the 'easy stuff' first, before you start replacing everything. If that doesn't fix it, at least you will have a good 'old' unit as a backup spare.

I wish I was more mechanically minded. The car has collected dust in the refurbished engine bay which could I presume affect carb and distributor etc. Tried to find someone local to me in the u.k who can refurbish the Q jet, but no luck up to now. Not brave enough to tackle that myself.!!

I have seen a replacement distributor at Ecklers for around $110 plus shipping which I thought was quite good. Just spotted that the auto trans. cooling lines and rubbers need replacing. Ecklers don't sell these because of shipping problems. does anyone know of a company in the states who sell these and can safely ship them to the u.k.

Thanks.

Just buy stock rubber hose of the correct size and capable of withstanding 200 psi of hydraulic pressure. Any hydraulic pump rebuild shop should be able to sell you a couple of pieces. Take a piece of the old hose in to show them what you need.

I meant the metal pipes from auto box thru to the radiator with rubber tube on the end of the pipes and connected to the radiator.
