Replacing the carpet in my 76, started with the wheelwells, good fit except on the back, never have heard anybody say anything about triming the carpet on the back, mine looks like I need to trim about 6" on the rear panel, it overlaps the rear panel about 6", any help on this sure would help before I make a mistake and cut when I don't need to.
thanks in advance for any help.
Hi 76,
I'm unfamiliar with a 76, but, if it's similar to a 71 the rear of the wheel-well carpet does need to be trimmed. It needs to be just long enough to meet the surface of the rear bulkhead. The rear bulkhead carpet covers the cut edge.
You need to cut a little at a time to get to the point the carpet just touches the bulkhead. If it's left too long the carpet buckles, if it's cut too short the rear bulkhead carpet doesn't cover the cut edge.
Here's the appearance on my 71.
Regards,
Alan
PS: The appearance/shape of your rear bulkhead carpet may look different because the shape of it changed over the years.
