Lately we have been playing with 4 cylinders and rotaries, so it seemed like time to build something with some serious displacement. A couple of weekends ago we started on the build of our dad's '69 corvette. Plans are for a 598 Shafiroff low deck, M-22 supercase, and a Moser 9". So far we have the IRS removed and the frame prepped for an Autofab 4-link, which should be showing up next week, along with a 9" axle. The progress so far....
I'm not for sure what the four link is, but am totally interested in learning please update this post with information & photos of your progress. What's the difference in the irs & four Link suspension? You have two really beautiful machines there.
What a coincidence that I chose today to look at the CF since I haven't been on here in months. I have done this swap so I will be interested in following your progress. Jim will be a great source for you. I have the 598 but it's a talldeck. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything.

I can supply pics and maybe advice as to what NOT to do.
One of the internet's greatest values is the ability to NOT make the same mistakes as others with some research. OP is fortunate to have someone who's done a very similar swap, I wouldn't think this is a very common one.
tagging along
Autofab 4 link is a great product. I've been running mine with a Ford 9" for almost 2 years now with zero issues. I've put 100+ passes on mine, too. I drive mine on the street quite a bit in the summer and runs great on the street as well. 275 MT drag radials for tires.
You're gonna need some serious rubber to hold that beast! There was a similar car on here a few years ago that a guy named Mike owned with a 540 and he wrecked it right after it was finished. That much TQ and HP can be a handful.
I talked with Paul about M-22 with Italian gears and he told me it can"t handle the torque. I have a Shaffiroff 582 with a g-force transmission with mcleod soft lock clutch. I need to back half mine. Good luck...i'll be watching updates.
The G-Force is what (Jim) 427Hotrod runs and I have seen him beat the snot out of it at the track so I know it will handle the abuse. I opted for the Transzilla T-56 from Rockland Standard Gear. It's rated to 1200 HP but I can't tell you how well it will hold up to the track yet. However, the 6 speed is nice with my 373 gears.
The gears are 3.50s if I remember correctly. We were looking for something around a 3.30 but Moser said it was a 3.00 or 3.50 so we opted for the 3.50.

I think we are going to stick with the supercase M-22. This car will see primarily street use. The tranny might be borderline, but I think we'll be OK. Our dad is a big fan of the old four speeds, so I think he'll get a kick out of the gear whine on the M-22.
