Yeah I know about the software thing. That's a drawback. I'm not sure I like the Holley Commander system though. Holley never posts and specs on their units like all the other companies do. They just say "This is a great system you should buy it" Their ads are very misleading. What do you think the new Accel system will go for $ wise?
 What, exactly, are you looking for? Holley provided all the info. I needed when I was shopping for a system. As far as available documentation goes, Holley is at the top of the heap.
The new Accel Gen VII system is in direct competition with the F.A.S.T. stuff (www.fuelairspark.com) in both features and price. Plan on $3300+ (depending on options and intake choice) for a full system. If your budget is in the $2k range, the Holley is the best option by a mile! Have you looked at their new StealthRam? As a bonus, IMO, it's much nicer looking than the SuperRam.
Try to find online support for a DFI system. There isn't any... Engineers from FAST and Holley are online all the time at http://www.chevytalk.com
Looks like you were right Flareside. The web sites are saying another $895 for the newest chip. That's just entirely too expensive for me. Why is Accel charging $1000+ overtop of what the other companies are charging?
They charge more because the system can do more than the $2000 systems. Sequential injection, wideband O2, individual cylinder control, more injector drivers to run bigger injectors, etc. You don't really need these features for a naturally aspired street car, but some of us want them anyway ;) You have to decide what you need, then buy the system that's right for your usage. You can't really decide on an EFI system without doing LOTS of research to learn about all the different options.
i agree totally with you Flareside, and I like the options that Accel is putting forth. Also, I looked at the StealthRam from Holley, and that has a cool look to it.
It's not the gas mileage i'm concerned about. It's the HP easy starting I'm looking for and ultimate tuneability. Flareside, I talked to Accel this morning and I got the demo CalMap software. Looks easy to tune and stuff. The ram is sequential multi point wheras I though it was TPI(silly me). And the ram comes with the Gen VII chip in it for $3300. Also, they said that I would need a electronic distributer if I want it to control the ignition and timing as well. I think I'll opt for that also. Add $299.
I talked to Paul Rock at work yesterday and he says Accel only makes crap. He told me to take a closer look at the Holley stuff becuase it's better than you think. He never gives me a biased opinion so I'm going to have to restragize. Anyway, the Holley StealthRam is 2730.00 and looks a lot nicer. So, I'm getting specs on that from Holley today.
Couldn't say from first hand knowledge. I just know that when I held the Holley and Aeromotive pumps and filters in my hand, I could feel the difference ;)
The Holley kit comes with one of two pumps. Kits with 30lbs or smaller injectors have a Holley black pump. 36 lbs/hr injectors or larger come with a Walbro pump. I initially had the black pump. It recently started making noise and I had it replaced with the larger Wal-bro pump under warranty. I think Holley may be switching over to using only the walbros.
I think the Walbro is a quality unit. Sure it's not as large as the aeromotive, but is that a bad thing? The capacity is impressive at 255 liters/hr. Enough to feed stout big-blocks. It is also very quiet. I can not hear it with the engine running (I have quiet exhaust).
Keep in mind that Walbro is a large OEM supplier. There's something to be said for stuff that lasts 20 years or more, which is what the big 3 demand from OEM suppliers.
Don't you have one of Street and Performance's setups? I haven't looked into it much yet but was under the impression that S & P's version is a custom GM TPI setup. What kind of controller do you have and how does it work? Can you reprogram it or do you have to have a new chip burned? And can your system control the 700R4?
