There's no such thing as a stock 406
Can you tell us what you want to do with the motor? What is the compression ratio? How do you drive it?
Its a street car that might see the strip once or twice a year. I wont to make sure that the bigger cam wont let the heads breath wright. IM not sure the compression. There is not much at all done to the motor. I latter plan on putting AFRs. I just dont have the money wright now and I wont for a while so i just wondered If a bigger roller cam and rockers would bump the HP up a little.
I would figure out exactly what you have done to your motor before you try to pick out a cam. Just because it is bigger doesnt mean it will make better power if it is wrong for the motor specs.
Take off a valve cover and get the casting numbers on the heads to start. If you can find one, borrow one of those flexible small cameras to look through the spark plug hole to have a look at what kind of pistons you have.
If you have the extra money to throw at that 'issue' and want to do your part at stimulating the economy, go for it. Spending that kind of buck$ for a good cam and lifter set up so that it will operate with a stock set of heads is like asking Mike Phelps to swim a 200 meter race at record speed....with one nostril closed. Don't do it, unless you get a set of heads to match the performance of the cam. (And then you need headers. And then you need.....)
I think the stock heads for a 400 were the 882 castings that had 76 cc chambers. A 406 with flat tops and 76 cc heads I,m guessing should be close to 9.75to 1. I have that 60103 in a 355 with 10.0 to 1 and runs great.
