My windshield, which was installed by a PO does not seem to fit right. It seems to curve a little tighter at the sides than the frame or T tops. It leaves a gap at the top and bottom of post.
Thanks Jack
It looks to me as if there are 2 problems, one easily fixed. The center windshield trim should go farther behind the side trims, that should fix the center piece gaps. It also appears the windshield was installed too low. It's been a while, but I believe there should be 2 rubber spacers at the bottom of the windshield, are they there?

What's hard to see in the pics is that the gap under the center ss trim is also under the ss steel trim on the a pillars at the top corners. There are no spacers that I can see anywhere under the glass. So it looks like the entire windshield is installed too far in.

I just had my windshield replaced in my 77 with a later model one.. it has black up the pillars and along the bottom.. I Wasnt sure I was going to like it, but I really do...
Now as for the gap.. I also have a nice gap on the upper area. .. Stupid me I Was a t a car show on sat and didnt look at single other car to compare. but i did look at a car at the shop i go to.. its an in molested 71 and it also has a little gap.. so ... HUH.. sure wish I would have looked this weekend..
The gap I see, lookng up, at the top near the pillars looks quite large compared to the gap I see moving toward the center. Could be an illusion but it looks like the contour is off? If the bed which the glass sits in were raised to fix the gap at the column, this would have the glass sticking out in the center?
Who made the glass? The local Corvette shop I deal with complained about a lot of junk out there for new windshields. Some too narrow, thinner, etc.
I just had mine replaced. Mine came from Pilkington. I think they're the ones who bought LOF glass? Fit seems fine on my 70.
I HEAR there not only different thicknesses of WS sealing/mounting compounds, but maybe two different types....
I also know that years ago I sealed my W/S in with black RTV, totally sealing the entire area so that no matter what, NO water gets behing the stainless, OR that area next to the glass from the fender trim....
not possible to rust,
the stainless trim tends to fit with 'tolerances' all over the place, on these cars....without a better look, I can't say any more....
I can't find a manufacturers name on it anywhere.(can't be a good thing). BBCorv70 your right. Thats no illusion, and thats what has me confused. mrvette you are right too, looks like the SS trim has been contorted to fit a bad situation.

The manufacturer's label is usually on the bottom right corner.
I'm seeing this more and more often. Inferior (cheaper) C3 windshields on the market. You want LOF brand glass. Whoever installed it did in incorrectly. It looks like they just glued it in flush. It has to be installed 3/8 off the frame. That's why you have the gap at the top.

Hi,
Here's a picture of a more typical fit for the glass and trim.
This is a replacement windshield from Classic City Auto. (Not in-expensive at all!)
The ss trim is all the original pieces. There isn't any gap between the bead on the ss trim and the glass.
I'll bet the glass was glued in without test fitting ALL the trim. It's a bit of work to dry fit it; but does away with any nasty surprises!
I think the trim needs to come off to see what's going on and what a solution might be.
Regards,
Alan
