Calling Lars
I guess you got the check...haven't heard from you. Sorry to see that you are closing up your carb "hobby" for all the forum members but I feel your pain about time. Too bad there are only 24 hours in a day....just think how much we could get done if there were more. Hey, quick question....what port on the q-jet should be used for vacuum advance or do you recommend something else? If you have a picture or a good description it is most appreicated. The carb you sent is great. What a differance in off idle responce :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: THANKS
John

I've been out in the garage all day working on the worst Q-Jet I've ever seen in my life.... no joke.... I think the Forum guys are trying to throw me some real stumpers!
My dad always told me, "If 24 hours a day aren't enough, start working nights!" He may have been onto something....
There are tuners who disagree with me, but I prefer running ported vacuum for all vacuum advance. Ported vacuum produces little or no vacuum at idle (throttle blades closed). Since all vacuum is immediately cut off to the vac advance when you close the throttle, the idle speed is very stable and does not fluctuate due to varying vacuum advance at idle. Some cars with radical cams respond better running manifold vacuum to the vac advance in order to get more initial timing without running the total timing off-scale. But for your stock car, I high;y recommend a ported source.
The ported vacuum source on the early Q-Jets is located on the forward side of the float bowl, driver's side. Looking at the front of the carb, it's located just to the right of the fuel inlet. You can test it by placing your finger over it at idle: you should sense little or no vacuum at idle. Later Q-Jets have the ported vac source located in the throttle plate, forward passenger side corner, coming out of the carb at a 45-degree angle.
I've never been to CO but I know the first person I am calling if I ever get there and buying him a beer:cheers: ....or two:cheers: ....or three:cheers: .
