On a '70, is the red warning lamp located on the center console cluster for the Headlights supposed to be lit if the lights are on and doors are open or if the lights are on and they stayed closed?
The Service Manual says "Micro switch on linkage must shut off warning lamp when lights are fully extended." Does extended mean open or closed?
Anyway mine is currently lit when the headlights are on and the doors are open. This seems wrong to me. At night I can tell if the doors are open and I don't need a big red light shining back at me for confirmation.
Hi Ray,
The light should come on for just a second the instant you pull the headlight switch, and go off the instant the headlight doors are ALL the way open.
Here's a picture of the black plastic switch. There's one for each headlight. You can check to see if it's adjusted properly.
Good Luck!

Alan

Thanks for all of the help/input guys. I think it's probably an adjustment issue. They were no microswitches in place when I bought the car 5+ years ago and I'm just getting around to making them work. The switches are new so odds are in the favor of an adjustment. I'll play with it over the weekend.
Alan-
Thanks for the pics! I agree with the other comment, your car is beyond immaculate. Did you ever get judged so we can finally see a full body shot of that baby?
I don't think anyone has ever seen a picture of the whole car.
Actually he did post one once.
But I'm sure it's going to be much nicer by the time he's done with it.
Sorry for digging this one up Alan but I just had to do it for all your fans and followers.
I can see it now, when you finally do reveal your completed work of art and post the photos that threads going to go 50+ pages long.
Hi,
Thanks for the kind remarks!
I'm thinking pictures of the whole car will be a bit of a let-down since you've already seen ALL the GOOD parts!
But they will come someday.
Regards,
Alan

I'll be damned, I think I actually saw this picture!

It was an adjustment issue. Pad was not contacting the microswitch button on either side enough to depress the button.
Thanks for the help guys!!!
and ALAN-
Please don't wear a tie in the next picture of your Vette!!
I do remember seeing that photo previously as well. Actually very cool, you've had that car a very long time and it's very obvious that you still love it.

Hey Alan
This car must be a previous affair of yours. The one you are "doing" now is topless, correct?

Hi Ray,
Yes that picture and tie are from a long time ago.
It's really odd the way EVERYTHING has changed since then, (Spring71), but the car.
I wore a tie to church a couple of weeks ago... probably the first tie this year.

Alan
