Default Damaged Fender

All-

I need help finding a diagram showing how the area surrounding the Left Front fender is assembled. I was set to ship my '73 from Hawaii to Washington State due to a PCS move. A few days before my shipping appointment, someone took the liberty of (I can only assume) backing into my car. It was quite the shock/disappointment to come out to, the sick feeling.

Damage was limited to just this fender piece, minor damage to the hood support on that side, and the fiberglass support underneath (where the washer fluid reservoir is located). From what I've seen, (I think) this fender piece is bonded to the hood support piece. The fender is damaged to the point where replacing it seems more favorable, I may be able to repair the rest. I'll take pictures so everyone can see, but BE WARNED! It is a sad sad sight to see the damage, with the stingray emblem right beside it.

I looked for information, but am still wondering about the layout, how the fender connects to the rocker panel, what holds the fiberglass support stable, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am proud to be part of the Corvette community, but due to my recent change of homeport, this car is currently my only means of transportation. It is able to be driven, but I feel absolutely terrible driving this car, seeing people with the "wow" face, then realize there is a HOLE in the side of it.

Thanks again everyone!
-Tom

The AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) used at the assembly factory has all that info...and more. If you work on your car, it is an absolute "must have" document. All of the aftermarket vendors sell them. Get the AIM for your model year.

Here are two pics from the web site that might help you.

The area shaded red in the lower picture bonds to the fender and the area shaded blue bonds to the upper surround panel.

The AIM's are available in printed or CD PDF format at this link: http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...embly%20manual

Hi Tom,
I'm sorry to hear of your car's misfortune!
Here are a couple of paint-less pictures to go along with the Willcox drawings.
I agree with 7T1 that the AIM will be your friend at this point.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
