Default Clutch Recommendations

Hey guys,

I have recently finished building my 383 stroker engine for my 73 vette.

Now The only thing stopping me from mounting it to the chassis is my clutchless transmission. I have the original 4-speed and I rebuilt it so it's basically a brand new tranny.

I've been told that I should buy some sort of race clutch since my 383 is gonna be producing over 425 hp. I would like to buy a kit that comes with the pressure plate and etc.

Which brands and type of clutch do you guys recommend. I don't know how much these clutch kits cost but I am looking for a "middle of the road" price range. not cheap and not too expensive.

Thanks

Put a Summit Racing clutch in my 383.
Reasonable price and Summit makes good stuff.

I used a CenterForce Dual Friction on my BB which makes close to 500hp. This clutch has been great for over 7 years. No slippage but good pedal effort as well.

You can search the archives for more clutch recommendations.

Is this the clutch your talking about?

And would this clutch give me any problems during installation into the original transmission ?

Yes, that's the clutch but not sure of the number of splines as another poster has indicated.

I like the stock replacement clutches. Luk is a popular brand in this area. This works well for me.

I'm loving my McCleod RST. Not cheap, but it holds a big block without breaking a sweat and the pedal is lighter than my 2012 Boss 302.

The new ford engine is now using a 4.5 bore spacing instead of the old laughable 3.9. Read where it can be built to 472 cu. How long will it be before the BOSS 429 version shows up.

I love my Centerforce 11" dual friction clutch with a GM Performance Parts flywheel, polished by Boucher Racing in Rowley, MA.
Close to 460 HP and not a problem.
Highly recommend a heim joint clutch linkage kit. I can't remember the manu. right now but it was a great decision to install it!

If you have a 10 spline trans i have an interesting dual driction centerforce
and centerforce billet flywheel internal balance. Its a 12 inch clutch.

HEY GUYS
Sorry for the long pause but I've been really busy due to school and work.
This is the info I have for my transmission.
M20 Muncie 4-speed wide ratio
Spline input: (26)
Spline output32)

Now for the output spline, I counted 31 and there seemed to be a larger than average gap in between the 31st and 1st spline I counted. Is this normal or do I gave to replace the slip yoke on my draft shaft.

Now I will be reusing the original flywheel, it has been resurfaced, the mechanic who helped me with the engine said I it would be fine to reuse it.
Tooth Ring: 168 teeth
Original Clutch Size: 11" clutch

These are the Clutch Recommendations so far

Another vote for the CenterForce Dual Friction.

I had an 81 Jeep Scrambler with a worked over 80 Vette 350 in it. Beat that clutch beyond belief and it was still grabbing like new when I sold it!

If the clutch ever needed to be replaced in my Vette, this would be the one...

383 with mods, street only. CFII, not dual friction, working fine for +4 years. Car has not been on a dyno, but computer sims say a little over 400 HP and 420 ft/lbs torque at the engine.

Clutch choice depends on what you are going to do with the car.

Is gonna be a daily driver. A 400+ hp daily driver lol. I would like to take it to the strip but I will not make that a habit.

I want a clutch that could handle the hp without any hassles and easy on the pedal and reliable, but does not have to be a clutch that could handle the pounding on the strip at a regular basis.

The dual friction sounds nice but I feel is a bit pricy for a car that's not gonna be involved in a lot of strips. However, It sounds like you guys think the dual friction is great for both street and strip
