how do we go about borrowing this tools? or is it a strictly US program?????
Rod
You wacky canucks! Had to go throw a wrench into it, didn't ya? :D
I've got no experience shipping things across the border. How difficult is it? If it isn't cost or paperwork prohibitive, I don't see why we can't do it. But remember, a tool that's $50US is like $295 canadian :D
Crazy? us?? we just have bigger *****......footballs that is!!!!
i can't see there being a problem with shipping things here. just put in a box, label it, declare what it is for....Tool loaner program.....and wahlah...its here. i use it ans ship it back. simple.....we canadians are simple people.....did i ever tell you that dogs pull my vette around in the winter????
I would imagine that is works the same....i know that when it came to ebay, we could not use it. but now it includes your "wacky" canadians friends............assuming we're friends that is!!!
so what is the proper protocol in this Tool Loaner Program? I contact the person that has the tool and arrange things with them...or do i talk to you a Mod??
Hey Rod. Hope you know I'm just kidding with the Canadian cracks :jester
Hopefully with the new software we'll have something official set up, but for now I think the best way to approach it is to contact the person with the tools directly and make the necessary arrangements. It's all new, so we'll have to all figure out what works. So if you do borrow some tools, feedback on how it worked and any advice for a more permanent program would be good. Especially since this is an across the border transfer, anything we learn can hopefully be put to good use.
I know they are :jester np!!!! so is there any guy/gals with the rear wheel spindle puller??? i need it to do my bearings. any help in finding it would be appreciated. i know its a risk sending it over boards but some one has to take the plung. if i had specialized tools to loan i would take the plung first. but i don't and i need one of you guys to pave some new road here!!!!
Rod
ps: we canadians are of all mixes and breeds....we are the melting pot!!
I suggested a couple of times to the moderators that we start a Corvette tool forum for sale, trade, loan, etc. But no response from them. I think this could accomplish what we want. Those who have something to loan can make their own deal for deposits, etc. Otherwise, a central command would lose track of the multitude of transactions that could/would occur. I like to buy used tools so would be less likely to want to borrow them, but we need to account for all needs.
Regards,
Steve
Jimmvette999--i agree with you on the "deposit" , but is that much really needed? i understand that some might misuse the tool and the program its self but maybe a little less of a deposit could be used. This paypal thing, i have never used it, how does it work? could you post a pic of the tool in question? you give example on the wear and tear charges, but what will govern that amount?
this was what I would need in order to loan my tools. others could do it their own way. it is not uncommon to find people with no common sense and the striking with hammers and over-torqued threads are some of the damage I would look for. my tools are like new and I expect a reasonable amount of wear but I don't need the hassle of loaning out tool to someone with no common sense which I'm sure would exclude most forum members. some users would simply not know the proper use of specialized tools and it could be accident. borrowers not wanting hassle of dealing with me could find someone less cautious. pics of my tools can be found in most corvette speciality tool vendors such as Eckler's, Mid America ect. if my tools become an inventory loaner item I would be pleased to take pics and offer them up. thanks :seeya
I agree with you Jim...is this the tool in question then?
Ok, i will look into the paypal deal...I'm an Ebayer myself but have never requested payment or payed with paypal!!! Who would be the mediator of tool wear and tear? and, let me get this straight, the charge would only apply if and when there is Tool misuse/abnormal wear or will there be a charge regardless? I hope this questions aren't wierd Jim!!!
I don't know who would decide damage beyond normal wear and tear. That needs to be worked out. Until someone takes responsibility for my tools I'll have to decide. I would like to turn it over to the Forum but I suspect they have more than enough to do already.
And I didn't think your questions were weird at all.
email me your phone number...I type like old people skrew so this takes too long. I'll fix you up. I don't want to be compensated in any way other than wear and tear above normal use.
That's pretty much what i was thinking guys. If a tool gets used, there's going to be some wear & tear on it. A compression gage comes back with a couple scratches on it..no biggie, that's to be expected. It comes back with a melted hose that got a little too close to a hot exhaust manifold? That's a different story. Due care is needed on behalf of the borrower and reasonable expectations on behalf of the borrowee.
