Wow that is impressive. All the little changes add up to a big number.

The car has done more than its share in this quest. Call Jenny Craig for those last 100 pounds.

Much, much, mo betta! I lightened the car, put thick sway bars front and back, and bigass tires all around, and the car is transfomed. My Autocross times are competive with the C5 Z06 cars that show up. Nothing short of a race car can touch the C6 Z06 cars. That is why I will own one someday. A bright yellow C6 Z06, a 427 ci race car with AC, cruise control, Bose Sound, leather, navigation, and Heads Up Display. And they get 20+MPG and weigh about 3000lbs.
Damn!!!
Panic's car is way lighter. We should hear from him soon.

There is an old saying when it comes to lightening a car......."Take care of the ounces, and the pounds will take care of themselves." For instance, say you do 20 things that save 8 ounces. That's ten pounds. It all adds up. A couple pounds here, a few pounds there, ten pounds somewhere else, before you know it, you need to stake the car down to keep the wind from blowing it away!

I could lose about 50 lbs. What is the best way without giving up what your second love is, good food.

Last time I weighed mine it was 2910# (1/8 tank of fuel and no spare tire or bucket). Took another 35# off last year, so I'm calculating 2875# (with t-tops and rear window installed).

Wow! You are already where I want to be. What have you done that I haven't? How about pictures? 2875 Lbs with a 427? How fast are you in the 1/4 mile?

Primarily replacing typical Chevy (heavy and cheaply made) parts with lighter parts off other GM vehicles. And, I learned to TIG weld a couple years ago, and I've replaced a lot of (again, cheap and heavy) steel parts with aluminum. How about pictures? The car looks essentially factory stock (full interior, no stripping involved). I like the stock looks of my car, I just didn't like how many cheap heavy obsolete parts were under the surface. 2875 Lbs with a 427? How fast are you in the 1/4 mile?

Have no clue what it would do in the quarter mile. I got the road course bug about 25 years ago and never looked back.

Ya know, the whole 1/8th tank, 1/4 tank, 1/2 tank thing just adds an unnecessary variable to the whole thing. Can we all agree to a standard? My suggestion is to just use curb weight. That means all fluids full, no passengers. That way, we can compare apples to apples.

WOW
these are great weight numbers for a C3 !
personally i'm not so focused in total weight reduction ( because my great handling Boxster is not that lighter than my 69 427 , i think the Boxster is at leat 3100 lbs if i recall).
I've been more focused instead in reducing the weight in the front and the unsprung weight.I want to keep the car stock so i don't go too deep in mods.
So the most astonishing mod you made, BeeJay , seems to me the brakes conversion to aluminum.the weight loss is really a lot and unsprung weight: 2 good things

Boxsters should be sub 3, a Boxster S will be close to 3 but not over.

That said I never put mine on a scale when I had it. :\

You have a Muchu Macho badass 427 Vette, and a Boxter? Isn't that the girly Porsche? How could you sit those two together in the same garage?
BTW, here is mine! 2005 Boxster S w/19" wheel package.

One of the awesomest cars in the garage! Regularly beats non-turbo 911s at the autocross.

Shark Racer
my Boxster owner manual says :
empty weight : 2811 lbs
max gross weight: 3527 lbs

so i believe that it should be in the 3000lbs range once filled. or not ?
not that a light car anyway , considering how small it is

BeeJay , nice red Boxster
for me the Boxster has been a DD and good comparison car to judge my Corvette. btw i look forward to replace the Boxster with a 69 Camaro ( or fastback mustang) but not easy to do it now in Italy

Looks like I was tricked by Porsche curb weights. They're more optimistic than Chevrolet.

Just did a quick read, a regular Boxster is ~75 lb less than a Boxster S.

The S comes in between 2950-3050 "ready to run", no driver. (2006 model, limited options)

I honestly can't imagine taking much off of those cars without an immediate reduction in comfort. You can do headers and exhaust, I hear the factory exhaust weighs quite a bit.

I'd love to own a Boxster again.

and Ferraris are very heavy too . if i recall correctly they should be in the 3700 lbs range.
so our C3 are not that heavy at the end: that's why i've been not that concerned in overall weight reduction on my car but focused more on unsprung weight and F/R byas ( i have kept the steel leaves spring in the rear, for example)

would be nice if someone would post a search of curb weight of the main modern sportcars, just to have a reference
