I have a 1972 NON AIR some time long ago I took off the vent hose?? on left side [ drivers side] it goes from that chrome vent near speedometer down to the air vent above the kick panel
AIM shows the duct. Short end (I believe) goes over the stud for the wing nut and up around the cowl vent. Log end then plugs into the back side of the dash vent ball housing. Wing nut goes over the stud to hold it in place.
Order the assembly instruction manual. You'ge going to want it for lots of things other than dash vent tubes.

thanks that is the first diagram i have seen ** i even have a keen parts catalog
easymike **
btw have 2 1972 assembly instrucktion manuals one in garage and one in my house ** and believe me have used them alot of times in the 40 years i have owned the car >> this diagram is nowhere in the assembly manual that i can find*
Hard thing to get a picture of but here it goes you can see wingnut up there a little (mine looks crushed in too far, another thing to look at when I take the carpet out)
The other end (at the ball) has a slot where the lever fit in at the bottom
Kind of barely see it there
FROM YOUR PICTURES THAT IS WHAT I REMEMBER IT TO LOOK LIKE * LIKE A DRYER VENT HOSE **
WHAT MELWFF SENT FROM KEEN PARTS LOOKS TOTALY WRONG MAYBE ITS FOR A AIR CAR ?
NOW I AM MORE MESSED UP THEN EVER ** CAN'T GET THE DRIVERS DOOR OPEN I HAVE THAT SIDE OF TEH CAR NEXT TO THE WALL WORKING ONE THE PASS SIDE *TO SEE WHERE THAT DUCT HOOKS UP TO MUST BE NEAR THE VENT THAT COMES OUT NEAR THE WIPER SWITCH ??? AND NOW I KNOW FOR SURE THE OTHER END HOOKS UP TO THE BALL
Hi Jim,
You're confusing 2 systems.
The heater/defroster has an outlet on the floor on each side of the transmision tunnel, 1 in the center of the upper dash pad, and the 1 you mention that exits below the wiper switch.
The 2 astro vents are completely separate. They bring in fresh air only.
They're really just a short elbow that fastens to the astro vent in each outer corner of the lower dash pad, and an outlet in each hinge pillar that is fiberglass and above the vents for the the kick panels.
Here's that outlet on the passenger's side, the driver's side is similar. You can see the bracket and stud that holds the wing-nut mooser mentioned.
Regards,
Alan
