Default 1968 value guesstimation.........

A guy down the street has a very nice 68 roadster that he might sell, and I was wondering about current prices. Sorry no pics available.

Well kept black/black rag/red interior. 350 crate motor, 5 speed TKO, torque thrust wheels new radials. Extra clean inside and out, great paint, chrome, always covered and garaged. I'm thinking high 30's to low 40's. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

WOW! I obviously spend my time over on the C1+2 sections. I had no idea C3's were that cheap.

Anyone else with an opinion????

I have a 68 L36 Roadster - mostly original. PLEASE come and see me if you wanna spend that kinda money on a 68... Kidding aside, in this market that is a $18K to $22K car. Maybe...
FYI, if someone showed me $25K my car would probably be gone.

a non-numbers matching, chrome bumper in resonably good condition, around $15k. Maybe a few bucks more for the OD trans.
Btw, my 68 convertible has a 6.0 LS motor, Richmond 6 speed, Vintage Air, new interior, wiring, suspension, etc....it's yours for $40k

with all the replaced parts which is really necessary equipment to merely maintain the car is realistically a 10-12K Vette.....or you will find the Vette in the same garage next year and possibly beyond if he wants more money. It has nothing going for it

Hi K,
There IS a vast difference in prices between the 63-67 cars you're use to and the 68-72 cars. And.... original 68-72 cars bring the most money.
My feeling is that to attract new owners with the $$$ to buy nice cars, the 68-72 cars need to have the ORIGINAL parts they left St. Louis with, and must be rust free (not repaired rusty cars).
You may find a buyer for a modified car, but to bring the $$$, the car has to be VERY well done, and be just what the new owner wants.
I believe that if your friend's 68 had it's original drive train, it's value would be very different.
Your friend's car might make you VERY happy, but don't pay too much for it.
Good Luck with your decision.
Regards,
Alan

I would say $25K.. A black on black vert will bring that all day at auctions. Please someone post a vert with a buy it now for under $18K. Crap doesn't count.

And you'll find that local prices up here are lower than in the US. I think your buddy would be lucky to get anywhere near 20K. Imagine how little my '73 is worth.

You could show me a million and the answer is NO.
40 years of blood sweat and tears have no cash value.

-W (been dead once - its quite liberating)

PS: Agree with 20K guess

My insurance company has agreed to $70000.

I have spent more than that on it, but it has given me 15 years of memorable pleasure and I anticipate many more years of wide grinning wind in the hair fun to come.

68 convertible with a 475hp sb crate engine and TKO600 OD gearbox.

Insurance companies will let you buy as much coverage as you want. How much they pay out is another story unless it's an agreed value policy as you inferred. Guys that buy $50K of stated value insurance on their 10K car will get 10K if they're lucky, and not the 50K.

What would your car sell for locally- I believe that prices in Oz are frequently 3-4 times what the same car would sell for over here.

I think he probably has near that much in it if the car is completely rebuilt and done to a high standard. Now if it was a 1st generation Camaro 30K or better would be achievable......but it's not. Other than "correct" when it comes to a Corvette and unless the car is exceptional and exactly what someone is looking for the resale value plummets on a modified car. Unfortunately that's the way it is. A realistic price as serveral others have already said is low 20s. If you really like it and you have to have it then maybe a little more. Be aware it you decide to sell you're not likely to get your money back.
