Vette exploded!
Can anyone give me an idea of what needs to be replaced (apart from the oil pan)? I'm just now beginning my research.

unbolt the pan and pull out any pieces of metal that you can.
post a picture of the broken pieces. not really necessary, you threw a rod but we love pictures and it would be nice to confirm.
then start pulling off the top end, carb, intake, headers, heads.
post pictures of the heads so we can tell you if they are reusable.
pray or sacrifice to what ever deity you prefer and post pictures of your cylinder walls. and the carnage from the underside personally I don’t think the block will be salvageable.
pull out the alcohol and the check book and decide if you want a whole new engine or just a short block. a short block is every thing minus the carb intake heads and headers.
sell any spare parts or kidneys you may have lying around
if
you blew a rod that means it broke apart and banged up the inside of your block. your crank is toast and the piston probably did some damage to the head and cylinders.I wish you luck and where are you located

DON'T do the work yourself, you know very little about engines. It sounds like you barely know what we are talking about. Let someone who knows what they are doing do it right.
How many revs were you turning when it blew?
Excellent advice, and exactly what I would have said....
The OP said in his original post that he was going about 90 MPH. If his car had 3:55s, I would guesstimate that he was turning around 3800-4000 RPM.....

Well, on the bright side it looks like you have an opportunity to learn a lot now if you're not afraid to get your hands dirty.
